Leadership -Connecting with (your) people to improve results. Step 5: NOW GET GOING

In this series we are talking about connecting – connecting to people, connecting people to the business results you want, and getting those results.

Let me intro this next step before we recap, so that those that have been reading along don’t have to repeat (thanks to those who gave me this good feedback; the recap is at the end of the post)…

In Step 4 you removed roadblocks to aligning people’s actions with Strategy. Woot! Let’s get going!

For Step #5, collect these materials:

1. Your 1-3 Critical Strategic Objectives, which are now mapped to show relationship and the priorities of these Objectives and their Steps

See the Recap below for links to these prior steps. Questions? Click to “Ask Lori

2. Your Annual Budget

If you do not have access to this, even for your department, you may want to pass this blog and Leadership series on to someone who does. (more…)

Leadership -Connecting with (your) people to improve results. Step 2: Mapping Strategy

In this Leadership series we are talking about connecting – connecting to people, connecting people to the business results you want, and getting those results.

In Step 1 you selected up to 3 of the most critical strategic themes or objectives. I offered a few examples and set up the Ask Lori! page to give you the opportunity to share your themes or objectives, or ask questions. Ask Lori! is still open for Step 1 and now also open for our next step: Mapping Strategy. Now you will prepare to share these objectives or themes with those who need to act in order for Strategy to be executed.

I’ve decided to share with you how our company is taking these same steps. I hope this helps clarify the process…

For Abrige & C-Secure the most critical objectives fall into these themes:
“Get Visible!” & “Systematize Everything.” I’ve logged these into Abrige STRATEGY, below: (more…)

Connecting people to business performance! (watch now)

What’s in it for me? (aka WIIFM).  You may be asking yourself this right now.  Do you think there has been a disconnect in communication, and strategy, in corporate America? I know there has! When people are not communicating transparently and with empathy, the disconnect between what people do and what leaders expect (aka Strategy) grows larger.  Reconnecting people - at all levels - into performance management systems and to the performance of the company is critical. And it is do-able! I’ll step you through.  First, take 3 minutes to watch this presentation. “Ask Lori” or email to lori (at) abrige.com.  Register on this blog at the upper right of the home page to keep tracking, and improve your performance now!

Transform data into information, and information into knowledge…for and through people!

A goal of the Collaborative-Action blog is to bring practical, do-able steps that will lead to performance management that works. Following is the first in a series of interviews to meet that goal.

Last week I had the pleasure of interviewing Professor Andy Neely, of University of Cambridge, Cranfield School of Management. You will find us both quite excited about the opportunity to add value, as we focus on translating data into information and information into knowledge.  Or as Professor Neely shows in the diagram below, “From Hindsight to Insight.”

This brief interview was entirely unscripted; it is a conversation chock full of immediate take-aways for CEOs, and all executive, division and department heads including Human Resources and Organizational Development.  I look forward to your comments about this interview and any questions you may have that can be answered in future posts, interviews or ASK Lori!

Do more with less effort in 2009. Introducing the “Connection Series” Part 1

It’s time for a transformation, and I’m leading the charge. No, I’m not going to teach you to be an analyst. What I will explain is how you – an HR or executive leader – can takes steps to connect people to, and into, business performance management systems.

Those who do not understand how I do what I do may initially think that I run solely by the numbers. Yes and (emphatically) no. Sure, I’m a pretty serious, challenge-loving, bottom-line-focused gal. I look at indicators and outcomes. If I can’t connect an action (in business) to an increase in long term value, then it is likely I’m not going to spend long with it, for me or for my clients. But what isn’t so easy to see is that “action” necessarily requires a focus on, and connection with, people! People are the most critical component of my businesses, and likely of yours as well.
